Northwest Prevention Science - Proven tools and telehealth solutions for behavioral and mental health professionals, schools, and organizations that support at risk youth and families

 About Northwest Prevention Science

Northwest Prevention Science (NPS) was established in partnership with the University of Oregon Prevention Science Institute to support mental and behavioral health professionals.

NPS provides training and software (SaaS) tools to clinicians, social workers, counselors, therapists, schools, mental health and primary care centers, hospital and health care organizations, and insurers that engage with youth and their families.  Family Check-Up® and FCU® are federally-registered trademarks owned by the University of Oregon.  Everyday Parenting© is copyrighted by the University of Oregon.

Our Mission

NPS will enable wide-scale access to a flexible, cost-effective mental health intervention, supported by technology, that keeps families together and tackles the youth mental health crisis.

  • For schools, we will reduce the challenges of managing mental health and behavior problems at school by providing solutions that support families to address these concerns at home.

  • For healthcare systems, we will provide mental health support and reduce ER claims.

  • For the mental health system, we will maximize the impact of limited available staffing resources through use of a brief, flexible, family-focused intervention.

  • For the child welfare system, we will reduce the trauma and life disruption caused by separation of families and contribute to successful reunification of children with their families.

Achieving our mission will transform the quality of life for families for generations, and reduce society-wide costs of our current mental health crisis.  For implementing agencies, we will provide solutions that can supplement and be integrated into current agency processes and programs.

About the Prevention Science Institute

The three major focus areas of the University of Oregon Prevention Science Institute (PSI) are consistent with the field of prevention science:

  • Bio-social influences on development

  • Prevention and intervention

  • Implementation science

PSI researchers identify effective interventions and the outcomes associated with these interventions across multiple domains of functioning, including biological, social, and contextual.  PSI is committed to research that expands our understanding of interventions and development among diverse populations. PSI actively promotes research that reduces disparities in outcomes and service utilization.

Collaboration is fostered in all areas of prevention science, among researchers and faculty across disciplines, including psychology, neuroscience, development, biology, human physiology and education. PSI work is conducted in partnership with local, state, national, and international organizations and researchers, including child welfare service providers, school district leaders, mental health providers, criminal justice system leaders, substance abuse treatment providers, and policy makers.

Together, we work to understand and promote healthy adaptation in children and families, with particular emphasis on the dissemination of effective interventions to real-world settings.
